| Comment: | | Hector Silva’s work reinvents and queers what scholar Richard T. Rodríguez calls the homeboy aesthetic.
This retrospective will be housed at the One National Gay & Lesbian Archives, adjacent to USC. It is the first exhibition to feature the entire range of Silva’s work and the historical ephemera surrounding it, including his correspondence with Lucille Ball and early photographs and accounts of his decorative work in gay Los Angeles discos frequented by such icons as Freddie Mercury, Diana Ross and Grace Jones. The retrospective itself is framed by the process of record-making among queer Latino artists whose works traffic through a range of spaces, including officially sanctioned civic spaces, private spaces and ephemeral public spaces like nightclubs.
