Interview with Sven

What message(s) do you want to express through your work?

Beyond the entertaining and erotic side of my drawings, I try more and more to work on the partner link that connects my characters. For all of us, gays, bi or straights, sexuality is a complex alchemy where feelings, fantasies, tenderness, domination, submission, abandon, game… are closely interwoven. I try to show a bit of all that while making it less dramatic and bringing it out in a natural and spontaneous way.
My characters are blooming in their feelings and sexuality, and I try to show through them the connections of tenderness, of knowledge and love that can bring together two persons of same sex as well as two of opposite sexes.
A little message about racism in all its forms, for more tolerance and respect towards each other. Kind of an ideal? Maybe, but dreaming’s beautiful ;o)

Which artists inspire you?, who are your masters?

I like many authors in the comics area, from the fantasy worlds of Moebius of whom I admire the various graphic styles, to American comics of which I like the stroke’s efficiency. In painting, I am particularly fond of Edward Hopper’s work and the feeling that arouses from the way he plays with lights, natural as artificial ones.

What have you gained by being on the internet?

A lot ;o)
The internet has been a wonderful tool to make my work known in many places, to meet publishers and to build interesting contacts. What I like too, this is the direct touch we have afterwards with the people who appreciate what I do through emails. I realize the extraordinary motivation those mails of support represent, as well as the pleasure brought by an email telling “I’ve been truly moved by your work”, the feeling of working not only for myself…

Could you tell us a few words about the place you live/work in?

I live in Rennes in Brittany (France), a city I really enjoy ;o)
