A really touching sensuousness comes from Jo Minaxe’s black and white photographs: the full curves of those women, the gorgeous shapely legs in a light with such a softness in it, of such a rare delicacy, the exchange of glances and caresses, the ballet of bodies and kisses – waited for, exchanged, shared –, each detail is staged and choreographed with care to reveal its magic intangible essence which leaves a sigh on our lips and a feeling of lightness in our souls.

Interview with Jo Minaxe
What message(s) do you want to express through your work? I hope that I am capturing the sensual energy of women; something that she alone enjoys but for a moment, allows us to see.
Which artists inspire you? Who are your masters?I love the portraiture of Diane Arbus.
What have you gained by being on the internet?People from all over the world have been able to interact with my work. I have learned so much from the perpective of people from cultures that are different from mine.
Did the internet enable you to meet new models, to find new exhibit places?Absolutely!
Has your work ever been censored? If so, how did you deal with it?I have been told to only exhibit what is considered the most tame of my work. I complied to get my foot in the door, but now I am more bold.
What projects mean a lot to you at the moment?I completed my first book of nudes, After the Flood. It took my two years to finish. I am very excited about it. You read about it on my website.
Could you tell us a few words about the place you live/work in?I live in Chicago, which is where I find most of my models. Most of them are regular women who have never posed nude before. They hear about me and decide to work with me. I shoot either at my home or in the home of the model. All of this allows for organic collaboration.
