Interview with Claudio Parentela

What message(s) do you want to express through your work? Only the freedom and the joy and the anger to draw. I love to follow the roads, always new, that the pen and the brush take. They are always so unforeseeable. I always do new discoveries. I always learn more on myself, on the world. Which artists inspire you? Who are your masters? I love J.P.Witkin’s art… It’s a continue source of inspiration for me and my work. I love Andres Serrano and Cindy Sherman too… I still have to name many many artists… Diamanda Galas is another one I think about at this moment for example… But the list is long… What have you gained by being on the internet? Much… I have known so many places, people, art galleries, magazines, artists… The internet is incredible… I spend a lot of time on the Web every day… And yes, naturally I have gained much to be on the Web… I think it is indispensable for every artist to be on the internet today. Did the internet enable you to meet new models, to find new exhibit places? Yes… I have found a lot of places on the internet where to show my art… Has your work ever been censored? If so, how did you deal with it? No… I have never been censored, maybe because I think my art is so weird, hermetic, chaotic sometimes… Often… What projects mean a lot to you at the moment? I am showing my art at the Museum of Porn in Art (Zürich) and at the Sechiisland Micro Gallery (Brasil)… My new booklet L’Eretico Cowboy is in the best comic-shops (published by Underground-Press-Italy)… At the end of the summer, Hermatena Edizioni will publish my last and new Tarots’ deck… I am working too on a series of Tarots’ decks (I’ll put them soon on my web site to sell them or to find publishers interested)… I am preparing two new shows for the next fall… A lot of work as you can see… Could you tell us a few words about the place you live/work in? My city is between the mountains and the sea… There are a lot of wonderful places to visit… I live in a great home with a great garden around full of cats… Words gathered in June 2007 © Incubus' Choice
