French Shibari (Philippe Boxis)
Interview with Philippe Boxis
What message(s) do you want to express through your work? No particular message, I am more interested in shibari work than in photography in my approach, but mostly by obligation… I am generally alone to make the bondages, to set up the lighting, to take the photos, and to take care of the model. There is too few possibilities left to be really creative in the pictures, so I satisfy myself with the simplest lighting…
Which artists inspire you?, who are your masters? The artists who have inspired myself for that work are mainly Japanese, as it is of course in the japanese bondage magazines we can find there and which are often of a great quality that I have found the most interesting pictures.
What have you gained by being on the internet? To be present on the internet is very recent for me, but it seems it opens new doors. I have not yet made concret any new contact, whether for places or models, but I indeed begin to receive some interesting emails, so it should not be too far away…
Could you tell us a few words about the place you live/work in?I live in Lille. I therefore mainly work in that area, but I travel too, and I am very often in Belgium for shibari evenings, exhibitions or demonstrations.
